My Personal Hurricane Prep Checklist


June - Beginning of August:
Trim trees and limbs
Make sure dirt / sand pulled away from the house
Clear rain gutters of debris
Shop for canned goods / powdered milk / canned meats
Begin depleting freezer meats - use caution in buying more
Check generator - start it
Named storm - Our area in the path
Pick up all debris around the yard
Fill gas cans
Buy water bottled and in gallon containers
Put wing nuts for shutters out

Prepare hurricane shutters for installation
Check tarps, bungee cords & ropes
Duct tape
Buy batteries for flashlights
Gather candles
Cash on hand at least $1000
Ensure RX's are filled - put in plastic ziplock bag
Make sure enough dog food / dog meds
Tools handy including shovel
Make sure all important docs all in one place / safe
1-2 days before the storm hits
Install hurricane shutters
Shop for non-perishables/paper goods
Cook any meats ready to eat in a few days
Place generator in garage
Put chain saw in garage
Fill both cars with gas
Move cars away from trees
Fill propane tank for grill
Sandbags
Bring in patio furniture
Do laundry if needed
Have dry towels ready
Weather radio ready
Secure fence gates
Bring in trash cans - or store in shed
Cooler ready with ice
First aid kit ready
Bug repellant / sunscreen
Locate phone chargers
Charge drill battery
Lower water level in pool
