This post is more of a personal one. My son, Jacob is a Marine serving currently in Afghanistan scheduled to come home soon. One of the Marine parents in our unit wrote this cute poem for their homecoming.
'Twas the night before Returning to Camp Pendleton, when all through the camp Not a Marine was stirring, not even a mouse; The weapons were hung by their cots with care, In hopes that the 7th ESB soon would be there; The Marines were nestled all snug in their cots, While visions of their Commander danced in their... heads; And mamma in her 'Wear Red Friday, and I in my cap, Had just settled down ...for that long awaited return. When out on the road there arose such a clatter, We sprang from the bleachers to see what was the matter. Away to the tarmac we all flew like a flash, Turned on the cameras and held up our banners. The sun on the breast of the new-risen day Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects in the distance, When, what to our wondering eyes should appear, But a caravan of buses, filled with many young men, With little old drivers, so lively and quick, we knew in a moment it must be our Marines. More rapid than eagles there coursers they came. Not one dry eye could be seen We all whistled, and shouted, and called them by name; "Now, Justin! now, Charlie! now, Brock and Sonny! On, Michael! on Kyle! on, Justin S., Tylor, Cameron and Dennis! To the tops of the mountain ! to the top of the wall! Now dash away! Dash away! Dash away all!" As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly, When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky, So now you are Free , Free, from your brave service you gave!! Now may God guide you and all who serve!!!!!!! "Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good-night."
